I attempted to watch an episode of that stupid show of his a year or so ago. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ. I get it: he is a business genius and every woman in the world wants to fuck him. Well, Mr. B., I'm not one to doubt your historical knowledge in general, but in this case I would like to make a few remarks.
If his mother was Hungarian, it's not very likely she has been in Bergen-Belsen. Most Hungarian Jews were deported to Auschwitz-Birkenau in the second quarter of 1944 and, immediately upon arrival, were put to death by gassing. We're talking approx. 400-700,000 people here in a period of a few months.
After the liquidation of Auschwitz-Birkenau in January 1945, the survivors were 'transported' or 'death marched' to concentration camps in the German Reich (i.e. Dachau, Bergen-Belsen, Mauthausen). After the liberation of the last camps in 1945, it took years for all survivors to return 'home' or to emigrate to somewhere else (Israel, US). Gene's mother got married in Hungary in 1947.
I'm not saying she hasn't been in Bergen-Belsen, but I couldn't find anything in my (short) search and regarding the above, I'm not easily convinced. That being said, I think it doesn't matter if she has or has not been in Bergen-Belsen. Surviving a Holocaust camp is a life changing event. And that's a serious understatement.
