The public has spoken, alright, but it has nothing to do with politics. The public has been saying, for nearly two decades, that there hasn't been a decent Star Wars movie made since Return of the Jedi, and even that one suffered from the Ewoks. You want to lay blame for this, I'd start with them and especially Jar Jar Binks. That shit killed Star Wars more than any perceived political agenda.
