I read McGowan's book. A short book that is hard to read as she is a terrible writer.

Basically all men suck except Marilyn Mason and some night-club owner boyfriend she had in the 90s that got murdered a few months after they starting dating. If MM was such the catch, why did they break up?

Robert Rodriguez was/is the devil but she stayed with him for a fairly long time while waiting for him to divorce his wife, but alimony/Catholic guilt/yadda on his part prevented that.

She grew up in a religious sex cult. As a teenager, she lived on the streets, did drugs and other shit you would expect street dwellers to do because her mother was crazy and her father was abusive.

It seems it was happenstance she didn't enter porn; probably living in the Pacific Northwest at the time made that less likely.
