That wasn't the point J.B. In a country as large and diverse as ours where certain populations are concentrated in a few areasthe popular vote can't be used to determine elections fairly. Our forefathers realized this thank God.
There were also concerns about lack of education and info in far removed populations and slavery at the time played a role as well. Some say the electoral system is outdated. That may be true but my feeling is that it should only be modified if so and not done away with.
