Putting aside, for a moment, the fact that Ethics Daily is a church-funded organization, they're basing this on a state-by-state metric, which really doesn't account for the population as a whole. In that sense, it's about as inaccurate as the Electoral College in reflecting the views of the people at large.

Bluecipher's sources are more like what I'd expect: That both sides of the ideological divide donate equally but differently. i'll take that one step further and say there are groups conservatives wouldn't view as "charities" and vice versa for the left. Which gets us back to Ethics Daily. I'll wager their idea of "charitable donation" is colored by what they define as a charity.
