Read Bunuel's My Last Sigh for a different view of the anarchists during the war: 'anarchist' military units trying to run as a collective, refusing to get their shit together and being wiped out handily by the organized and disciplined fascists; more concerned with killing village priests, 'reactionary' peasant and helpless monks than fighting those who could shoot back; issuing absurd declarations banning marriage and enforcing 'free love' on mystified peasants; their syndicates grinding wartime production to a crawl. They were doomed long before the Statlinist bastards stepped in to crush their dumb asses.
