I don't know if it will always work out this way, but the other day I ordered a few items from Amazon that had standard shipping and then later I ordered something else and selected next day shipping for that one item. Amazon shipped everything all together and sent it all using next day shipping. All of the items I ordered were filled by Amazon itself and not sent from the manufacturer. I think that's the key.

Same day shipping won't ever make it to Alaska. Some places act like next day shipping to Alaska doesn't even exist. Then there are places like Russ & Daughters in NYC were I sometimes get salmon lox and the shipping winds up costing pretty much the same amount as the product itself.
