The ethnic group known as "Gypsies" are technically referred to as the "Roma" peoples. No one knows for sure where they originated from but it is thought that they may have originally come from India. They live in communities scattered across Europe. I believe they are found in greater numbers in Eastern Europe although they have enclaves in the west in countries such as Italy and France.
