As an escapist myself, I can't say that I necessarily sympathize with junkies, but I can sort of see where they're coming from. Some people don't have that supportive family and friends network that have been there to dig us out of the shit when we couldn't muster the strength and willpower ourselves. This obviously doesn't apply to all of them, but there are people out there that struggle with depression and the day to day grind and turn to dangerous substances as their escape. I firmly beleive that people need people for the most part. This is why rehabilitation operates in the fashion that it does. It gives you other people to lean on and relate with. I can tell you for a fact that I would not be here today if it wasn't for friends and family.
