Consoles were supposed to make gaming easy and bulletproof, take it away from evil things like enough RAM and a keyboard and mouse for those not used to auto-aiming.

Then they essentially became specialised custom PCs and happy bug fixing entered the picture. Heavily marketed titles take upwards of two years to make and it's customary for publishers to force studios to meet some financially relevant release date, in any form. Fixes on day one of the release might patch it up a bit, but it's not exactly Super Mario material in terms of polish mostly.

The next batch of consoles are probably jukeboxes even more than the current one.
