AVN Says To Adult Industry “Fuck You”By MikeSouth

I have seen some pretty blatantly fucked up things in this business in my twenty plus years but this one takes the cake. Saturday night AVN gave what was once our industry’s most prestigious award to a piracy site, Pornhub (Owned by Manwin).
Pornhub is one of the worlds largest tube sites and one of the worlds largest infringers of copyrights. Pornhub is largely responsible for the decline in business that this industry has seen over the past several years. They have stolen content and used it to make themselves rich. They took food off of your table if you are in this industry, they took right out of the mouths of your family and said back to you “fuck you”.
And Saturday night AVN showed every single one of you what they think of you, they gave Pornhub an AVN Award for “Best Free Site”.
Now the question becomes what are you going to do about it?
Will Jules Jordan (Who says he fights piracy) redeem himself and pull his ads from AVN?
Will Evil Angel pull their ads?
Elegant Angel? Vivid? Wicked? Will people in this industry stand up for themselves or will they just roll over?
The only power AVN has is the power that the advertisers give them, if I were an advertiser I would never again allow my name in that magazine. They have stooped to the lowest of the low. It is now time for the people in porn to declaw and defang this paper tiger.
I thought Theo Sapoutzis was a decent person but it turns out he is just another person ready to sell out this industry and my bet is the sheep in this industry will continue to support him. I hope Paul Fishbein is as enraged over this behavior as I am, I hope you all are. AVN has slapped us across the face and spit on us.

Theo responds on GFY – Says It was What The “Fans” WantedBy MikeSouth

From GFY: Mike, it was a fan voting category where people voted. We may agree to disagree on certain things. Over the course of the last month or so there were no more than 4 or 5 people that told me this was a wrong category to have. Two of which they said since you have no benefit you shouldn’t do it because some people may react. Only one client reached me and was basically trying to protect me from potential complaints. I responded back if we were taking decisions just on what’s our interest we would had been some pretty evil people and we aren’t.
Free adult sites have been part of this industry for more than 15 years. We like it or not a major part of the adult industry has been working with tube sites like Pornhub and they have become a significant part of their business model in an industry that constantly evolves. Of course I was expecting some criticism and that’s healthy. I’ve been in Vegas for the last 8 days where a major part of the adult industry from both the online and content production sides were. I’ve talked with so many producers, production and Internet company owners, performers and so on… not a single person said a word on this to me. When I feel I did a mistake, I apologize and try to fix it.
I had this discussion with Nate Glass from TakeDownPiracy and I asked him to write an article on this on our magazine and I’ll respond or go back and forward with a q&a on this category. We’ll do that either on Feb issue if it’s not too late or March.
What the fans wanted huh? so if the fans had chosen a child porn site that would have been ok right Theo?
And there you have it Porn Valley….straight from Theo Nobody cared.
So you now have the chance to show Theo and AVN that you do care…..or that you don’t and the result will be exactly what you deserve either way.

I’ve been looking for something online, a porn fan forum perhaps, where they were discussing the AVN fan awards or where it was even mentioned outside of the AVN websites. Can’t find a single mention of it anywhere other than AVN. If anyone is able to point me in the direction of where this was mentioned other than AVN, I’d appreciate it.

Update on AVN Award For Best Piracy Site By MikeSouth

It seems a lot more than 4 or 5 of you were upset about this enough to email Theo at AVN. I got copied on a lot of emails to that effect. Know that if you are considering taking your business elsewhere you are NOT alone, not by a long shot. I am sure XBiz would welcome the revenue or that you could find a place for it should you determine it doesnt even need to be spent at all.
This was a boneheaded move by AVN to be sure and the fact that nobody there has owned up to this yet just further exemplifies how out of touch with this industry they truly are.
As one company owner said it, It doesn’t just hurt AVN when they do something like this, it hurts all of us because it makes it appear that we see this as an acceptable practice, when we do not.
AVN has chosen to lay low on this and hope the storm passes.
I sincerely hope you guys don’t let the storm pass, I hope you remember and that you hold AVN and Theo accountable for this assault on our industry.

Thank You Jeff for allowing me to run this, you are more diplomatic than most but you get it.
Dear AVN Friends,
I am looking forward to the AEE expo and the AVN Awards Show in Vegas.
We all understand that times are a changin’ but I have to voice my rare
displeasure with AVN for your award for Best Free Porn Site (or
whatever it is called)
Yes, free porn is here to stay and we all have to adapt to a new way of
doing things or get out of the business, but the way free porn got here
and the destruction it has caused the adult movie industry including
AVN Magazine and my company X-Play makes this award feel
like a wound that is getting salt rubbed in it. I love AVN but
maybe it would be more palatable next year but this is too soon for
much of your core supporting companies to have to sit and watch a site
like Pornhub or YouJizz or other win a trophy.
I know you have other internet awards that are given to companies that
have free porn sites but I think the word ‘free’ is what is opening
this wound for so many.
Yes more people worldwide are watching porn than ever before because of
the free sites but to actually glorify the concept of free at this
moment (regardless if old school companies are now offering free porn
as well) is a slap in the face to those that have built this business
over the decades. I think they deserve more respect than that.
Everything changes, life and business is one big cycle and nothing
remains as it is and we evolve but this award is hurtful and very
distasteful to many at this time.
I still love you guys but I have to grimace at this one.

As a porn consumer I can say I love free porn. But from a business sense I can see how it killed the industry and how stupid it is for AVN to reward Manwin (and the other free porn sites) with an award for gutting the industry. Why can’t AVN see that?
