Chat speak is everywhere, on every different online communication platform with text as the means to transport information. It is pervasive, persistent and utterly illiterate. People online, thus a lot of them, are exposed to this primitive online dialect whenever they communicate directly with others, since their own communicative capabilities faded, stay constant or never developed at all. There is supposed to not be an effect of all this bleeding through. Right. When all their lives they do no once read the correct form and do not bother to look it up, their understanding of spelling and grammar will be what they are being exposed to.
