I was there really to assist with my stepdad who is starting to come down with dementia whose family claims origin from Palermo via his paternal grandfather. My mom wanted him to see it before he deteriorates.

But, I liked the trip [and the island] much more than he. Partially because he is the only Italian I've ever known that detests seafood, which was like every other meal.


My favorite treat was the Sicilian cannolis in Palermo. They were HUGE and delicious.


I had fun trying to speak Italian with the locals [which was when I decided on the new variant of the name].
