Not only that but those in the South are more welcoming than those in the North.

The people in Sicily were very welcoming. I ate lunch in someone's house outside of Savoca [where they filmed parts of Godfather I]. Two daughter and the wife of a policeman. For dessert we had oranges from their trees. I raved on them so much I was given a few to take back to the hotel.

I did visit Corleone as well [which was too built up to use for the film - plus it's not near anything like the idyllic Taormina]. I happened to visit on St. Lucia Day in December. Children gave me rice balls to eat. Rice balls are very popular on Sicily.

Like the views and sites, I preferred those from the east/Greek side which were more conical shaped and crispier.
