I purchased some items at Goodwill....surprisingly enough they charged me sales tax for it....interestingly enough the month previously I donated some stuff to them as well and they gave me a tax deductible slip for it....

I never said I was a tax accountant but it seems fishy to me....I mean they are a tax exempt charitable organization...right???

They are tax exempt, but you aren't. You are the buyer, so you have to pay the sales tax. And, you get the tax write-off for donating to them.

Now, when I buy for a tax-exempt institution, I show the numbers and don't pay the sales tax, no matter who I buy from. Sales tax is really buyer's tax.

now I know....
