Schmidt struck out too much for my taste. He had 12 seasons where he struck out 100 times or more and led the league in strikeouts four times. Brett struck out 908 times in 21 seasons, that is an average of 43 a year. Schmidt had over twice as many strikeouts in his career despite playing three less seasons and 2000 less at-bats. I'll also take Brett's career .305 average over Schmidt's career .267 average.

Schmidt did strike out a lot but he also led the league in HR's 8 times and RBI's 4 times, BB's 3 times and OPS 5 times. All that and 9 gold gloves. I'll take the strikeouts. Brett was a great player but I'll take Michael Jack.

My mind is rotting, but good ol' Mike was a career Philly wasn't he?

I used to have his rookie card somewhere, acquired over 15 years ago, but I can't find the motherfucker for the life of me these days.
