The law was no doubt written for the legitimate movie business, not porno. If your agent gets you a real movie once every four months, you'd be on Easy Street. Most SAG members spend more time as waiters than movie stars.

And no offense to the producers here, but while it's bad for you, LA Direct having firm high rates for the performers clearly benefits them. Even if in theory they could make more by working more at a lower rate: they would risk overexposure, they would be taking more turns at the STD/other work hazard roulette -- they may end up shortening their career and making less overall in the long term.

And no matter what your job -- if you can make $100K working one day a week, vs. 125K working 4/5 days a week, which would you choose? Many would choose to work less.
