Well, I was following it pretty well...up until the point where Dave shut of H.A.L. After that, there were some trippy visuals and then Dave ends up in some sort of space-age retirement home? I dunno, the ending sorta' threw me off.

Read Clarke's book, the middle 1/3 or so Kubrick completely skipped over in the movie. If that is too much trouble then think of everything after the acid trip as man's next step up the evolutionary ladder.
