I spent a night walking around Kabukicho in Shinjuku, peeking into interesting-looking doorways. At most places stern-faced young guys in suits and pony-tails would cross their arms and shake their heads without saying a word - fair enough. African touts would try and drag me into an over-priced hostess or strip bar with mostly eastern european chicks, and when I would politely say "no" they would go off on me big time screaming in the middle of the street saying "what the fuck are you doing here? You're white! You're not Japanese! You don't fucking belong here, man!". Bear in mind that this was an African pimp saying this to me.

A couple of times older Japanese guys in suits would come over and invite me into their sleazy dens of iniquity, but I declined as I wasn't quite sure where the straight part of Kabukicho ended and the gay part began and I didn't want to get a terrible shock!
