Oh well, guess I'm watching "Strangers on a Train" this evening.
Check for bent pins - S-Video and VGA cables are notorious for one pin getting bent which is often the cause for the partial signal. I wouldn't be using couplers by the way- they're evil- kinda like using duct tape.
