Okay. I'll put this thread back on track, since the mod has no interest in doing so.

Contrary to what some other posters have asserted, I don't think there's anything Oedipal (or Step-Oedipal) about Luke.

Luke seems to have spent his entire life desperately seeking Desmond's approval. And, after many, many years, he finally came to the understanding that he would never receive the cranky old bastard's blessing. So, late in life, he finally had the rebellion he should have had as a teenager, the cornerstone of which was his conversion to Judaism. But, on a subconscious level, he still seeks Rev. Des' approval. Thus the outing of the whores, the alliance with Shelley and the Holier than Thou attitude in general.

When Luke finally outgrows his delayed adolescence, he may turn out to be a decent guy. Or he might be a prick, but anything will be better than what we've got now.
