The only thing I can think of is that Herbie Hancock worked on both albums.






Not just Herbie, but the entire rhythm section. The VSOP group was pretty much Miles' 2nd Quintet with Freddie Hubbard on trumpet instead of Miles. Awesome 70s Hard/Post Bop.
