When I first saw the image of this runaway girl on the streets of London I was shocked and almost started crying. I was 16 when I ran away from home and ended up spending a night on the streets of London. I was carrying all my belongings with me, a heavy bag, a backpack and a sleeping bag. Without any clear destination I was roaming the streets near Victoria Station, looking for a place on the streets where I could lay down and sleep, in an unknown city in, an unknown country, close to midnight. A perverse looking stranger approached me asking me if I knew what time it was. Had it been Bruce Davidson, he might have taken a very similar picture to the one we see above.

Next day for lunch I had the cheapest and most filling food I could find. I had a bottle of milk and a loaf of disgusting white English bread.
