This was actually a serious concern in the US at the start of WW1. A lot of people had parents or grandparents who had immigrated from Germany and there were many politicians worried about whether large segments of the army could be relied on.

The army chief of staff at the time made a statement something like "as soon as someone shoots at them their uncertainties will fade away".

Unfortunately with this lot it's hard to see them as a positive contribution to much of anything, much less Iraq. I can easily see them getting into a loud public debate over the treatment of cattle at the supermarket if sent to get milk.
