I went to high school with a dude who got his hand stuck in a band saw at his part time job working in a steel mill. The glove he was wearing got caught on the blade and it sucked his hand in. He lost 3 fingers. The docs reattached 2 of them but they were just for show because of the nerve damage. He got 10 grand a finger and a full time job for life he only had to show up for. Not such a great deal since 5 years later the steel mill went under.

Jeez, the war is winding down. Trading 5 commanders for one private may seem like a bad deal, but it's just what happens at the end of wars. It's tradition. Unless you were going to put them in front of the firing squad for whatever crimes, and they all seemed to be whatever as far was their crimes go, it seems like a good trade. I mean, you could hold out for 10 tons of raw opium, but you can trade the rest of the captured commanders for that.

Parents stymied.

Dude got raised by lib parents. Bought into it because it's the easy way to go. Was gonna change the Army from the inside, or was going to be a superhero and sit down with those Talis and they'd see that Americans were just regular Jhokars just them and peace would break out. Either way, his folks fed him the "you're going to be great and special".

Didn't work that way, tho. I imagine he probably endured some pretty horrific shit. And he grew to realize that all the "everyone's the same as everyone else" that his daddy fed him was bullshit. And I'm sure his hosts showed him every time daddy kissed the ass of some Muslim terror group. I imagine maybe, at some point, he blamed his parents and their training of him for putting in the position of being ass pounded by the holy warriors. I imagine he grew to hate his parents.
