With the onset of winter, I like to look at homes like this and think of a simpler existence.

I had no idea Simp was Norwegian.

I did three pages and thought it was post-worthy, before I forgot it. There aren't more interior shots? Most of them probably suck because frankly, most of the cabins are pretty shoddy, rustic affairs. And to live in one means living in a mess.

I just enjoy the idea of the simplicity of such a one-roomed life. I got too much shit to live in one but I can think about it.

I think its the shoddiness and primitive nature of the interiors in that type of living that appeals to me. I like to imagine "Could I be comfortable there?"

It's a daydream for me. Then I think about the reality of lighting or stoking a woodfire and getting a stove hot to percolate my coffee EVERY morning, as opposed to pouring water in my Bunn.

We've lost power here for a week and a few times, for a few days. I don't enjoy being a slave to a woodstove for warmth and sustenance. It's a fulltime job or at very least, a mode of survival.

We had a small cabin out in the woods growing up. It was a one bedroom place with a woodstove and also electric heat that would take forever to warm up. We'd go there sometimes and it'd be -30 below zero and we'd crank the electric oven to 550 and stand in front of it until the place would warm up.

It was there that one of my friend's told me about this guy he heard of who went to his cabin when it was like -50 and to warm up the guy cracked a bottle of vodka from a cabinet, drank a swig, froze his throat and died.

I remember being at the place during the summer and when you were sitting there in silence, you could hear wood ants chewing on the interior of the place. There were piles of sawdust in the closet, too. Using an outhouse when it's below zero really, really sucks. The place had no running water, so we'd drive to town to visit McDonald's and take Mexican showers in the men's room.

I still want a place like this though. I have the land and the means to build one. Hell I probably have almost all the material I need to do it.

Like a fortress of solitude. Or more like a tree-fort for a grown-up. A place to flush work and xpt and the drudgereport and such, as if that's possible.

I want a fuck cabin with a hot tub time machine.

I skipped that movie, but I got a hot tub you can have if you'll come get it. I will not raise a finger to help you remove it. It's an 8 ft Jacuzzi Corsica. Old School. Gas heated.

That's the thing isn't it ? Just surviving becomes your full time job. No time for worrying about facebook pals or who pissed who off on what forum or the wife bitching about your smelly feet etc........ Sounds like heaven for someone healthy enough to do it. If you could'nt get healthy doing it you'd expire soon enough.
