My phone texts, but I don't do it. Never have. I've had the "receive" turned off. If you want to call, call. If you want to email, email.

Honestly, I rarely even listen to messages. Mostly I scan my phone for "missed calls" and, if interested, call those people back [Read my brother, my dad and my best friend].

Since I've been ill, I've been infuriating to deal with.

I used to be against them, but now that I have a plan with unlimited texts, it is very convenient. My biggest problem is that they take a while, since I can't bring myself to use text abbreviations. Those are a worse dumbing down of society than ebonics.

They really are. People can't spell for shit anymoure. I like to think I'm fairly tech savvy, but I refuse to participate in the texting thing.

Hell, I bought my first cell phone about ten months ago. I still haven't sent a text from it. I believe they are called cell phones and not cell text senders for a reason.

I text constantly, but I dnt txt lk a fckng rtrd tht cnt fckng spl. I prefer typing out words in in 7 fully typed out texts rather than typing in non-sensical abbreviations. But I do love texting. Get what you want to say and what's important out, and eliminates the bullshit small talk with small people I don't want to talk to, or with friends/family I don't feel like dealing with at the moment. I'm pro text.

Fat, get a Google Voice account. It's free and you can forward unanswered calls there and then when someone leaves a voice mail, it sends you an email with a transcription of the message and a button you can click to play the audio recording.

I hate checking voicemail too, but then I'm like, "fuck, I haven't checked voicemail in 2 weeks! What if I missed something important?". Then, I still don't check the voicemail... For whatever reason, getting emails for voicemails makes it so much easier for me.

But, it's really a combination of not wanting any uninvited intrusions and the fact that people get very angry if you don't reply. On the other hand, once it is made clear that you don't return calls TO ANYONE, they stop leaving messages. More often it is women who take this badly/personally.

It's not just voice mail that I don't like. I rarely even deal with my email. I NEVER deal with my regular mail. It's been a problem for over a decade. In fact I spent last week shredding boxes of unopened mail from 1998. I've gone thru 16 beer cases of mail the past 2 months. I've got about 10 more to go through.

I never open mail anymore. My dad has my bank and government stuff sent to him. For some reason he actually enjoys dealing with mail, and once month or so we go over any issues. Mostly it's making sure that what I've charged was stuff I really bought.

At this point my mail box has no name on it and is locked permanently open. So even if a mailperson violates the post-9/11 policy of NOT delivering to an unmarked mailbox they have to pick up what they left the next day since the previous mail falls thru the unlocked box to the floor when they open the building's mailbox to fill it.


Honestly: It's not really possible for me to miss anything important. Nothing important happens to people in my situation.
