Well, Jamie, don't miss out on this one. Sin City is a definite must buy. Great fucking movie. A diamond in the rough, for sure.

Just got Vampire Assassin and I plan to watch that immediately. I love DV movies -- the very last vestige of passionate filmmakers before you turn into big-budget shit hacks like Rodriguez.
That Sin City shit, I probably won't see for awhile. Hollywood pretty boy Josh Hartnett, digital backlots, Robert 'I'm a fucking putz' Rodriguez directing and the always annoying Brittany Murphy all in one movie! Where's Scarlet Johanson to round out the shit pile? Gee, sounds great!
Although, I hear Rutger Hauer is cool as a cannibal priest and just about the entire cast of House on Todville Road make an appearance so eventually I will have to dive into this vomit pool.

The contract was a little more specific than just "make another movie for us", but I agree about him not being able to deliver as he used to. I went to see one of his productions near San Francisco and it was a little weird because it played out like a student film shoot. I think his short films are so much better, especially BedHead and his scene from Four Rooms.

This isn't Columbine and it ain't about being cool, jesus christ, it's about having an opinion. As a film lover, that's the only thing tangible that we do have -- oh, and usually a massive DVD/video collection.
As for dumping on DV movies, uh, okay, it's easy to kick someone when they make shit on a 1000 dollar budget. It's another thing altogether when you make shit on a budget of 100 million. As for talented actors, don't make me fucking laugh. A lot of them are Hollywood A-listers, who made it to the top based on nothing more than their looks, who they fucked etc... Just because they make big budget movies doesn't mean that they're talented.
I just think it's hilarious when people say they like Tim Burton or Rodriguez or NBK etc... Why? Usually their answers are baseless, and follow the same tired line as the next guy. They like their shit because everyone else likes their shit and it's the "in" thing to think some hack like Rodriguez has, or, in his case, had talent. Unlike everyone else in this forum, I go against the norm and say I think he sucks.
That, my friend, is a fucking "opinion" cool or not.

Horrid production values DO affect my feelings about a movie- I have seen some good stories crumble under bad acting, camera work and bad sets/makeup. Sometimes all the exterior things that are too poorly done can corrupt the best intentions of a good young director and writer with regard to ENJOYING a film. I am with Toe- I have enjoyed some smaller budgeted gems BUT I just want to escape reality and be entertained by a film. Big budgets and lots of explosions coupled with some good laughs usually do it for me. You are right Jamie there are quite a few big budget flops but IMO Sin City is definitely NOT one of them.

Yeah, my problem is not with your opinion. Your saying the only reason I might like sin city is because everyone else does? I like Sin City because it has a unique element of fantasy, and I love the hackneyed "film noir" style it attempted. It was fun. For the record, I hated once upon a time in mexico. I just don't like holier than though film buffs acting superior. Their like wine tasters. Okay, you don't like Rodriguez. Fine. I don't care. But your implication that only idiots do is what I took offense to. I love low budget movies, too. If they are done well. VA was not done well, and the plot had huge problems. I loved Primer, and I enjoyed Pi, and Brown Bunny. I could name more, but you get the point. And what are you trying to imply by saying this is not columbine? Do you own a gun and a black trenchcoat? Would I be safe having this conversation face to face with you?

Yeah, The Brown Bunny that just came out on DVD, with Vincent Gallo and Chloe Sevigny. Sevigny's feet looked horrible, which almost ruined my entire goddamn day, but the movie was interesting. It tried to be a bit to Sixth Sense-ish, but all in all, I liked it. I really don't think I would like VG as a person. I've read some interviews of him, and he is over the top mean and arrogant. In fact, when Sevigny used to be with Harmony Korine( Kids, Gummo etc . . .) Gallo gave interviews calling them both every name in the book. He called her a whore, a bitch, him a hack moron, and much more and worse. I'm paraphrasing, but he was relentless. That's why I was very surprised to hear about her part in The Brown Bunny. He may have been right about her.

You can pay only 19 or 20 bucks for three out at a time. I think that price is correct. It's something like that.
Does NETFLIX carry porn. All my local video stores stopped carrying it. Now they only sell it. I remember not too long ago where they had hundreds to rent.
And BlockBuster doesnt do porno.
