With this stupid bitch, things always boil down to one, solitary throwaway line. This week, the whore says, "I am the new breed."
"New breed" of porno performers? I don't really know what that means, unless it's a reference to the two weeks she spent in the hospital with a major case of anal warts. Check IAFD, she gets her ass pounded about 1/3 of the time. If this means there will be more girls like Sasha Grey in the industry, that's a good thing. If there are more girls who are beautiful, articulate, professional, on time, off drugs, and fuck like champ on camera, then I'm all for it. Despite how pretentious and full of herself everyone seems to think Sasha is, that girl's attitude hasn't changed since the day she entered the industry. I have worked with a lot of big name girls when they were just brand new with no name, and I've seen most of these girls egos blow up beyond control. Sasha is just as polite and well-mannered now as she was at the beginning.
I think that by attacking her for calling herself "The New Breed", you are taking what she said out of context. Sasha means that she represents the porn star anti-stereotype: she's not dumb, she's not on drugs, she was not abused (yes you can call her a liar all you want but for the sake of argument I have decided to believe her), and she wants to push the limits of society's view on female sexuality. It's easy to jump on the anti-Sasha bandwagon because her intelligence and unapologetic self-confidence makes people uncomfortable. Porn stars aren't supposed to be smart, they're not supposed to have self esteem, and they're not supposed to be comfortable with what they do for a living. If someone like Sasha-- someone smart enough and driven enough to be doing something else (i.e. something more socially acceptable than porn), chooses porn, then what does that say about women? Could it possibly suggest that we are not all victims forced into this industry by unhappy circumstance? Could some of us actually truly enjoy having sex on camera? Could it suggest that... (gasp!) women are capable of making their own rational decisions that are driven by personal preference rather than the need for a quick buck to pay their drug dealer or for a lavish lifestyle they could otherwise never achieve?
Now personally I wouldn't call most porn performance art, but I respect Sasha's attempt to intellectualize her work. I think that people underestimate Sasha's importance in changing what people generally think about women in the adult industry. It's actually kind of sad that instead of celebrating a positive figure such as Sasha, that we instead prefer to cannibalize our own. But then again, this is XPT.

I'm calling you on this, because I demand proof.
1. She has a high school education. Running around trying to convince people you are some advanced existential thinker just makes her "attempt to intellectualize" being a dirty whore all the more pretentious and disingenuous. Would she continue to do porn if her rates got dropped in half? I didn't think so.
2. I highly doubt that she is trying to advance the cause of female sexuality. Name one thing she has done in her porno "career" that is groundbreaking? Some interviews? Appear in non-porno films? Marilyn Chambers did that in the 1980s. So did Ginger Lynn. Heck, Stormy Daniels is two-up on this whore. Have you been reading the mostly negative reviews of her acting "skills?" Her reach exceeds her grasp.
3. Holly, I think you fail to take into account the "freak show" factor a whore like this projects when interviewed by someone other than Tony Buttfuck or Duke Floored. The interviewer muct have some sense of incredulity at what the whore has done in her lifetime. Seriously, what 18-year old girl who decides she'd rather get fucked in the HersheyHole by Brian Pumper rather than try and build on her beginner-level intellect? If she's so smart, she could have easily gotten into UCLA and you could even have suggested which English classes to take (you did take a crticism class from J. Hillis Miller, didn't you???)
4. Not to mention that producers probably don't give a shit about her extending the boundaries of female sexuality. They just care that she shows up on time, has a clean bunghole, and doesn't mind a little jizz in her eye.
I don't deny there's a group of "sex-positive" women in porno who don't just drift into an abyss--Puma Swede, Alana Evans, Austin Kincaid, Aria Giovanni, heck your girl Aimee seemed to acquit herself well.
