I've seen a lot of jibba-jabba about agents being shitty or scam artists etc. How hard is it for a gal to rep herself? I mean if she has contact info, an AIM test, etc. why can't she just take care of that shit on her own? These 'agents' just seem like useless middlemen....

From my perspective, nothing 'inside' or official, but just like any industry...
If you're a newb, you need to establish yourself, gain contacts, etc. An agent is a good start.
Once you're established, like any other job, you have connections, you may be able to handle your bookings on your own.
However, if you're too big, you might need the assistance of someone else to handle your bookings - like an agent (back to square one), manager, suitcase pimp, etc.

Eric has the idea....
most newbies dont know where to go, what to do, how much what pays...etc, etc....etc.
Then in comes in the agent and helps this lass on her way to superslutdom.
But after a while people begin to recognize you...if you had the same phone number for more then 3 months....and answer your calls you may not need that leech taking 10-20 percent.....
but some people have no car, cant wake up on time, no fixed place to live....etc, etc....and they need a babysitter.
the two sides of the coin there....

So then what you do is you ask for those names....have him call them right then and there.....

Yeah, I considered that too, G. But if you read some of the boards it seems that the agencies aren't exactly the most solid either. That's what has always perplexed me. Eli, Giirlzinc. etc. keep getting whores work.

Were those Los Angeles companies? It might be because you're out of town and they need you agency repped to ensure your reliability.
Yeah if they were LA Co's then I could understand....no one wants to pay kill fees for "flakes".
But the company who rejected you should be able to refer you to an actual known and reputable agency that they deal with regularly.

yes an agent told me that

it was an agent not well spoken of on here
and it was said to reinforce the idea that i should sign a very wierdly worded contract that gave me heebie jeebies so i stopped emailing with them
but thats good to know 
cause im a total non flake, im like, early
i like filming like, SOOOOOO much- number one get off for me
wish i got to do it alot more than i do here
so hopefully when i get out to LA and have my new boobs ill have the agent i want and get to work alot, or even without an agent & get to work alot would be really cool too
