NORRISTOWN, Pa. - A photographer was sentenced to 24 to 51 years in prison for killing a Canadian adult film actress in his studio-basement over a dispute regarding her fee.
Anthony Frederick, 47, tried to apologize to the family of Natel King at his sentencing hearing Friday in Montgomery County Court, but her mother ran from the courtroom before he finished.
"I am sincerely sorry," Frederick said. "All I can do is recognize the wrong I have done and apologize. I am truly sorry for everything that was done."
He fatally stabbed Natel King, 23, a Toronto-area native who worked under the name Taylor Sumers, in his Conshohocken studio on Feb. 29, 2004. Frederick told authorities the dispute erupted after he told her he could not pay her in full.
Frederick, of Lower Providence, had pleaded guilty to third-degree murder, abuse of corpse, and related charges. Defense witnesses, including his wife and daughters, said he was abusing the prescription drug Ritalin at the time.
King went missing for nearly a month before a passer-by found her nude body in a ravine in nearby Whitemarsh.
Frederick's photo assistant, Jennifer Mitkus, 30, of Oaks, was sentenced to six to 23 months for lying to police and helping Frederick get rid of the body. She was also ordered to get psychiatric care.
District Attorney Bruce L. Castor Jr. said he was disappointed with Mitkus' sentence but satisfied with the long sentence given to Frederick.
Her father said at the sentencing hearing that he copes with his daughter's death by imagining at times that she is off at school.
"I try and tell myself that Natel is gone off to a university and is doing all the things that she planned to do, and that one day she will be home again," Daniel King said.
First of all I want to take this time out to pay respect to a good friend of mine. Natel King was killed by a **wannabe photographer with the help of his personal assistant. I had a great working relationship with my home girl, I personally hung out and photographed her several times. Natel was a star waiting to happen, she use to tell me to "take my **head out of my ass" and realize that she was the hot new thing. After 2,500+ images shot it was always fun to work with Natel. If we had a shoot scheduled, Natel would either show up 2 hours early or two hours late, and then have the nerve to ask me if I was upset with her. Not for long, because she was a total star when it came to being behind the camera. The sad part about her death, is how the media painted a picture of Natel being a wild porn star! This was a very bad joke done in poor taste. My home girl was far from a porn star, that was not her style. Natel was a glamorous softcore model. The images you will find of her were similar to semi or nude images you would find in a Victoria Secrets magazine. Nothing more. Nothing less.
I just want to take this time out to wish my friend a last farewell. She may be gone, but never forgotten. I have about 3,000 images of her and will dedicate several of them in all upcoming photography and film releases. I do not want to world to forget Natel, fuck the critics, this is done for the love of my home girl. Rest in peace Natel, the chapter is now complete, the killers have been brought to justice. I want to thank you for accepting my style, vision and crazy attitude at times. I will always love you, but you know that. I'm still here shining amongst all these fake, wannabe, sharks in the business.
I will never forget.
Warmest Regards,
