Monday I was attempting to update my lesson on Democrats vs Republicans. I went to the Democratic website to get the new platform to make sure I was up to date....While there I found the platform and discovered they still had the 2004 one up....... I called the national office and they sounded like they couldn't believe I was looking for it so soon...I told them I teach Government and Politics and why I was looking for it so soon...They told me they just got back from Denver and asked me to give them until the end of the week to get it online...I will be checking on Friday during my free period again... Today something told me to check the Republican site and I did....GUESS WHAT......the Republican 2008 platform is online already....they are so organized that their platform has already been uploaded to their site while they are still at the convention.......while the Democrats asked me to give them more time after they have already returned..... I wanted to start my political party lesson on Monday and felt like I couldn't cause Democrats weren't ready to publish their platform......I expected to find the Republican platform after the convention not during.....so guess what..... The Republicans have saved my lesson planning....I will just start off with the Republicans in a classroom with huge McCain signs while I still fight and wait for Obama signs to come later...(btw...the president of the local county office told me they give them away if people volunteer for a couple hours  ) Thank You Republicans for being organized!

the "surge" is merely doing what SHOULDVE been done from the get go...which any general that suggested were fired for their effort. too little too late. bribing the sunni tribes helped quite a bit as well as the Mahdi Army chilling the fuck out. i love how the Repugs have somehow substituted the "Surge" for the War. I think the VP debate might be interesting. Biden seems like an adult most of the time, but he can become a little shrill when he's flustered. Also, many men will tell you it is difficult to debate a woman without coming across as a wife-beating, child support non-paying, cheating prick.

Indeed it is, Noahped. Common enough that someone as purportedly intelligent as Obama should have known how it would be taken, coming on the heels of Palin's remarks last week.
If the guy made an honest gaffe, he should've manned up and said so. He might have won over some fence sitters with his candor. By whining and crying "swift boat," a term that only resonates with hardcore Dem activists, he alienates the undecided voters he needs.

It was no gaffe- if you see the video of his delivery of that line it's apparent he intended the joke. He probably thought he'd get a good one in and if caught deny culpability. That's pretty much what's happened so no harm no foul.

Actually the best way for Obama to get my vote would be for him to come out and say "You bet your ass that was a swipe at Palin, so what." At least then I would be more likely to believe him when he goes on TV and says he's not raising taxes or when he declares victory on an aircraft carrier.

The answer: Dumb enough to hoodwink with charges so contrived and cynical they make your teeth ache. Let's start with the most insidious of the assertions: that Barack Obama has supported teaching "comprehensive sex education" to kindergartners. The McCain campaign has put up an ad making that claim, citing legislation Obama voted for as an Illinois state senator. Actually, the intent wasn't to teach young kids all about sex, but rather how to recognize improper physical contact, says Kelvy Brown, legislative coordinator for the Chicago Department of Public Health, which backed the bill. "It was about teaching them what's not appropriate when it comes to touching, fondling, those types of things," Brown said. Further, the 2003 legislation stipulated that any school sex education program had to be "age and developmentally appropriate" and have a parental opt out. As the nonpartisan campaign watchdog FactCheck.org has made clear, this is a thoroughly dishonest ad. No matter. The McCain campaign has shown it's ready and willing to say preposterous things to win. Now, it's true the Obama camp has been guilty of some distortions of its own. Still, it's the McCain team that has made leveling false or misleading accusations its modus operandi. Witness this week's other foray into flimflam: the charge that Obama had called GOP vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin a porcine politico on Tuesday by saying "you can put lipstick on a pig - it's still a pig." That expression is one that McCain himself has used a number of times, most notably to criticize Hillary Clinton's 2007 healthcare proposal. And in context, it's clear Obama invoked the phrase to portray McCain's policies as a continuation of the Bush administration's, and not to disparage Palin. Indeed, the notion that it was a barb belittling Palin is so self-evidently absurd that Republican Mike Huckabee refused to play along. "It's an old expression," he told Fox News' Sean Hannity. "I do not think he was referring to Sarah Palin." Of course he wasn't. And yet, the McCain camp quickly put up a Web ad portraying it as a sexist remark, and on Wednesday McCain spokespeople and surrogates served up similar accusations of disrespect on TV. Pressed about those claims on MSNBC, McCain senior policy adviser Nancy Pfotenhauer stumbled into a revealing moment. "It doesn't matter what the media thinks," she said. "What matters is what the American people think." Translation: If we can dupe voters into believing Obama disparaged Palin, we can score political points. Sadly, one of the McCain allies pushing this manufactured controversy has been former Massachusetts acting governor Jane Swift, who on a Tuesday McCain campaign conference call flatly accused Obama of calling Palin a pig. On Wednesday, I noted to Swift that a reading of Obama's remarks simply doesn't lend credence to that charge. And, further, that McCain has used the same expression himself. Well, replied Swift, Palin's convention speech joke about lipstick meant the word was very much associated with her in the public mind. "If it didn't intend to bring her into it, why would you choose that particular" formulation? she asked. What's more, she said, some in the crowd listening to Obama had also taken his comment as a reference to Palin. Think those arguments are flimsy? Well, consider her further contention: "Nobody but Barack Obama . . . can know what he intended," but the fact that she and others had found it offensive meant that he should "make the whole thing go away by saying, 'I shouldn't have said it.' " So, let's see: Obama employs an everyday expression to make a legitimate political argument. His opponent's camp then strains an Achilles in a ludicrous attempt to twist his comment into a sexist insult. And now, to end the controversy, Obama should apologize? There's some pretzel logic for you. McCain and Swift are the ones who should apologize. Voters, meanwhile, should be insulted that the McCain campaign is trying to peddle them this kind of transparent trumpery. source

In a time when banks are failing, the FDIC is talking about borrowing from the Treasury to make up in insurance shortfalls (Tom Brown and Vernon K. Hill notwithstanding), and underwriting standards on just about every type of loan except those guaranteed by cash collateral are tougher than a Kelly Wells double anal scene, why has no one mentioned the name Charles Keating, and the fact that McCain helped to bring about the Resolution Trust Corporation and the biggest wave of bank failures ever in the United States--over 2,000-- when, as a Congressman, he personally lobbied the Office of Thrift Supervision to loosen bank examination standards on Lincoln Savings; right after Charlie Keating handed him a pile of campaign money?
He has shit on just about everyone he ever befriended in Arizona politics: Mo Udall, Barry Goldwater, John Rhodes, Bob Stump, Todd Gozinski, Grant Woods, Pat Murphy, the list goes on and on...
As an example of his "statesmanship," JohnnyMac once brought a New York Times reporter to Walter Reed Hospital to meet Mo Udall. Udall was a Democrat in this enormously conservative state, but worked with Republicans Carl Hayden and Barry Goldwater to fund the canal system which basically keep me and my state alive. By this time, Udall was dying of Parkinsons Disease, but that didn't stop JohnnyMac from trying to wake the dying Udall for five minutes so he could say something nice about him in front of a national reporter.

John Adams and Thomas Jefferson, two of the greatest political minds ever, were once Pres & VP respectively. They were no team. The job of the VP is to sit around and wait for the President to die or become incapacitated, and to break ties in the Senate. That's it. You could argue that the VP also has a responsibility to shoot his friends in the face with a shotgun, but that's probably limited to one specific person. Imagine the day that McCain gets cancer agin (he's already had it 4 times) and is undergoing chemo for a week, at which point a "hockey mom" from Alaska becomes the head of the Executive. No team any longer, just one lost individual, and a bunch of cabinet members who will resent her for being chosen VP over them. She--not McCain--gets to deal with Putin, with the womanzier Sarkozy, with that douchebag Burlesconi, with the Iranians who hate us, and with the Israelis who will spy on us at a moment's notice (think Jonathan Pollard). Very valid points. They're not a “team” and are sometimes at cross-purposes. Once in a while (JFK/LBJ) they outright Hate each other.
I don’t think McCain would croak in office, but if he were to do so, I think a better analogy for Palin would be John Tyler, who succeeded to the Presidency after WH Harrison checked out one month into his term. Tyler so alienated his fellow Whigs that they kicked him out of the party while he was still in office, and made him both the first President to be the subject of an impeachment resolution and the first to have a veto overridden by Congress.
Nor do I see see Palin being able to replace any of McCain’s cabinet pics with her fellow bible-thumpers. Control of the Senate is expected to remain with the Democrats (if they don’t outright expand their majority.) Does anyone really expect her to get her way there? John Tower, anyone? Or Bork, or Myers? In effect, she’d be handed her own de facto Tenure of Office Act.
Last, I don’t see her starting any wars while in office, either. If Haig and Kissinger were able to keep Nixon from launching nukes while the world crashed down around him in his own political Gotterdammerung, I don’t think there will be any problem keeping the Baked Alaskan Bible Broad from starting trouble, either.
