I have been struggling to keep from ordering the new e-reader from Plastic Logic since they don't ship for a few months and I want to see a few hands on reviews, but I'm afraid I'll break down and order one before the reviews come out.  I did buy a new washing machine today though. Sorry no pics.

It is a topic for a different thread maybe, or you can see the thousands upon thousands of threads discussing this very point on other discussion boards. I've even participated in a few of them. 
It is e-ink, not an LCD screen. It works a lot like a book or a magazine or a newspaper. It only takes power to re-arrange the e-ink (e.g. turn the page) so the battery life is long (measured in days not hours), and in good lighting the print is as crisp as holding a piece of paper. It is not aimed at casual readers, tablet PC users, gamers, or the Kindle crowd. It is a tool for professionals who read and carry a lot of reports.
Believe it or not, it is the cutting edge of technology. Color screens are about 5 years off.

For now I think I am okay on books. I probably should have asked a little sooner if I really needed book help.
My complaint about books stems from one of my classes where the prof (?) apparently didn't submit the book list to the school book store till after the class started. One of the books I need isn't carried by the school book store or anywhere else.
I had to get my parents in the US to get it on Amazon (Canada Amazon guaranteed it by April!) and then speed mail it to me.
And I am not going to what would be considered a "slouch" school.

UNIX in a Nutshell and The UNIX C Shell Field Guide are the first two books I was recommended. They have never let me down.

I used to think more of watches but now of days everything tells the fucking time, from my truck to my telephone to the damned radio. I look at them as a tool- will it tell me the time reliably with no thought on my part? Sold!
I can get three years out of a presentable Fossil before it gets whacked. That's good enough for me. Guns, fishing tackle and winter coats, otoh, are my weakness.
