No wonder this place is called the city of brotherly love - all the women are ugly. The ones that aren't totally disgusting are just plain. To the point that when you see a plain looking woman you think she looks good in comparison. I've never, ever, been so surrounded by wholesale homeliness in my life.

I saw a place I suspect was a strip club yet was afraid to go inside lest I turn to stone instantly from looking upon a rogues gallery of Medusa strippers.

The place is dirty, has ugly women, smells bad, and their signature food is a "steak" sandwich with, get this, "cheese whiz" on top of it. Who in the hell puts cheese-whiz in their belly in 2008?

On the plus side, it is relatively easy to drive around and if you can ever find a place to park it's not hard to walk around from one place to another.

Another big plus- you can drive in most any direction and soon find an offshoot of I-95, which means you can get the hell out of town in a hurry.

Also, there are tolls out the ass on 95 south of Philly. WTF is up with that? Gave all the state and federal funds to illegals and n'er-do-wells to the point you have to charge people to drive on the damned interstate? Ridiculous.

It's funny you should say that. A recent survey by Travel and Leisure magazine had Philadelphia voted as the city with the ugliest people in America.

You're talking about the Delaware Turnpike, so don't blame PA for the tolls on I-95.

Their major toll road is the Pennsylvania Turnpike which mainly consists of I-76.

However, PA is planning to convert its entire run of I-80 to a toll road.




But, that is how it is in the northeast. In NY, half of 87 and most of 90 are toll roads [along with a couple of short spurs, the collection of highways is called the NY Thruway]. In NJ part of the toll road NJ Turnpike is 95 [until 95 abruptly ends around Allentown, NJ].

btw, The spur of 95 that goes to Philly seem an afterthought since it doesn't directly connect to 95 in Jersey. I think it's called "95" just to keep PA happy since it easier to bypass Philly entirely on the run from ME to FL.

But, it isn't limited to the Northeast. In far-off Gigi/Windsock land, I think all of I-80/90 is a toll road called the Ohio Turnpike, but I haven't been through there since the 80s, so my memory could be off and/or the facts could have changed.

Philly does suck. I avoid the fucking hole when ever possible. Don't make a wrong turn and end up in North Philly ever. Its the badlands and those niggers are crazy. They have no respect for anything or anyone including themselves. West Philly is only marginally better. Philly needs another mayor like Wilson Goode. There is a reason they dropped a bomb on Osage avenue. It was because they deserved it.

Caveat:

It isn't as if there aren't good looking young Philly girls.

For example, Princess Grace Kelly was from Philadelphia.

But, if you were cute and stuck Philly, you'd leave too.

If they convert to a toll road I believe they lose federal highway funds. Can they really make up the difference in tolls? Connecticut has also been kicking around the idea of making their section of I-95 a toll road again.

I'm safely back downsouth now. I read up on the toll situation. Those damned roads were toll roads prior to the interstate system coming through, and I think they were allowed to remain so.

There's no excuse for the women though. My business there took me to the campus of Penn, Drexler and Temple, and even the college girls were nasy.

I've only spent a couple days in Philly - I was visiting a buddy at Wharton a long while back. It was ass, and after 24 hours we went to Atlantic City and wnt on a three day bender.

Did have the obligatory cheesesteak and all I remember is sleeping with the window open so I didn't gas myself.

I visited Philadelphia in around 1990. The city was having a fiscal crisis and as a result all of the city supported touristy things were closed, e.g. The Liberty Bell, Independence Hall etc. I also remember some sort of ship that capsized in it's mooring in the harbor. I got a parking ticket that I never paid and went to a cool bar called the Khyber Pass.

Don't knock Philly. It has a certain charm of its own. It's a diamond in the rough...well, maybe more like a cubic zirconia. And who can forget Eakins' "Gross Clinic"?

Is it possible to put a powerboat in that river that runs through downtown? I saw where all the rowing clubs were located but could you launch your own boat and see the city from the river? If the water doesn't smell too bad in the summer that might be a good way to see the city.
