I see listings here on craigslist.com with red flags all over them so I am going to do y’all a little public service.
My name is Mike South and I have been in the adult business here in Atlanta for over 15 years.
Here’s some rules to keep yourself from getting ripped off, hurt or scammed.
1. Nobody legit has any kind of "audition". EVER.
2. Nobody legit does any kind of percentage deal or pays anything other than cash. (Many Companies In Porn valley Pay by check, but I shouldn’t have to tell you that a check from the real Vivid is legit)
3. Vivid, Wicked, Hustler, Digital Playground etc DO NOT have offices here or anywhere but Los Angeles, CA.
4. If it sounds to good to be true, IT IS. Nobody legit pays more than about 750.00 for a single boy girl scene or 300-400 for a girl girl scene.(rates in porn valley will likely be higher, but not more than double at most)
5. Nobody legit will have a problem with you bringing someone to the set with you. Whomever you bring is, however, expected to behave appropriately.
6. Legitimate shooters do NOT post anonymously. They have real email addresses, not yahoo or gmail.
Several girls looking to get into this business have recently been harmed or murdered. every single time greed overcame her common sense, don’t let that happen to you.
If you are height weight proportioned and looking to get into adult feel free to contact me directly.
Ok so you think you may have a legit offer, here are the questions you want to ask:
1. What company/website will these photos/video be used on?
2. ask for 3 references in the adult industry and check them.
3. know exactly what is expected of you up front and exactly what you will be paid, be specific also in what you will NOT do. Always do this UP FRONT

I agree with him for the most part but he should have elaborated on some items-

This is absolutely true...But I see a lot of "Paid Auditions" as well on CL. Now if its a "Paid Audition" and they then have the talent sign a "model release form" it should be called what it is…a "Paid Shoot"...My take on this is that the scumbags will pay the talent a lot less if they think that its only just an "audition" and wont be used eventually as content.

Slightly inaccurate….Adam and Eve have offices in North Carolina; although I don’t really think they actually do shoots there. Some other companies also have satellite offices as well. Playboy has locations not only in LA but in New York, Chicago (Still their Corporate HQ.) and in the UK. Hell correct me if I am wrong....but Mike is in Georgia...Right....ATL sure aint LA.

5) I disagree with #5. It's unprofessional to bring someone to set. Most talent who ask such either don't have agents or their agent has not groomed them as to what behavior on set is expected of them. You are there to work just as if you're at any other job. Even ASKING permission to bring someone looks unprofessional. If you feel unsafe, don't accept the scene.

It can distract from the scene, throw off both performers, one extra headache for the director, all kinds of reasons. I thin it should be Ok to bring a chaperon personally, but they should wait comfortably away from the set.

a couple of reasons. i know there are performers both male and female who dont care, but i would guess that the majority would rather not have the significant others there.
1. i would say half of the guys who accompany their girls to set arent there to make sure the girl is okay, they are there to be a voyeur and watch her get fucked like at a swing party. sorry, this is work, not a party.
2. i myself would never want to watch my other half getting the shit banged out of her with me watching flaccidly from the sideline, so when some other dude seems content with doing that, it bugs me.
3. as for females accompanying their male performers to set, i would assume that females wouldnt like it, because it potentially leads to the girlfriend (esp. if she is in the business) getting catty. "you looked like you liked it too much, you kissed her for too long", etc. etc. i think it makes the female uncomfortable.
4. no one out there brings their other halves into the office on a wednesday afternoon to watch them type memos and sit in on presentations. so why is it acceptable for them to watch us work? whats the difference?
once again, these are just random thoughts and it no way should be construed as factual for every performer. its just how i see it most of the time.

They may have picked up this nasty bad habit from their previous experience(s) in adult such as….Escorting or Dancing. I can see the SO taking them to calls and being the bodyguard/driver as an Escort and I know of some clubs that have a strict no SO policy in place but other lower end clubs who desperately need girls will allow the girls to do almost whatever they want to do….including letting the SO hangout at the club while she works…. I think someone could make a nice chunk of change selling a How to be a porn whore for dummies book.

I can't stand it when the other halves are on set. They get in the way, they do drugs in the bathroom, take up precious parking, attract the neighbors, they annoy the director, they ask stupid questions, they eat the food so that when talent is done the talent has NOTHING, they slow down the make-up artist, they have to do the whole kissy-facey thing before the scene, JESUS... I thought companies hired PROFESSIONALS not babies. I swear to God I had to pry the mitts off the fucking coke bottle from this supposedly nameless high fiving important dude who was trying to take it off set. Its for the talent I told him. Oh but there is only 1/4 left I am taking it home. No you aren't douchebag, there is no H2O left, we are nearly wrapped, and that is all they have to drink. That's all? Yes, and you are not taking it home. He wouldn't let go. Fucking tweaker.
Don't take your dog to set, leave the other half at home, bring your ID and test and play ball like a pro.

i don't think his actual designation is 'bodyguard' unless we are not talking about the same cat. 'harlot wrangler' maybe?
I dunno...i get the 'oh, you're the body guard' thing all the time. drives me nuts.
Personally, I despise going on set because I feel like i may be underfoot, even tho i may have some legitimate purpose being there (whether i'm covering the shoot or working in a publicist capacity) ....and Courtney is shooting a flick this week. argh!
