Shelley, a 38-year-old woman who attends SAA meetings in Tucson, Ariz., said in a phone interview that she was addicted to pornography the same way others are addicted to alcohol or drugs.
She stayed up all night phone-chatting or Web surfing and masturbating.
"I was able to have multiple orgasms and that is what I wanted."
But the habit took its toll.
"I was unavailable emotionally to my family. I didn't show up for work at times," Shelley said. And when she did forge relationships with men, she was completely motivated by sex, she said."
