AIM made an infommercial! Now we can be sure the industry will never have an outbreak again. Funny how Dr. Mitchell describes herself as an actress and a stripper, but conveniently leaves out the ex-junkie cum guzzling whore part. BTW what does she have, a doctorate in Philosophy or something like that?

She has a Ph.D. in human sexuality from the Institute for the Advanced Study of Human Sexuality in San Francisco, a bogus, unaccredited internet school. Although at the time she got it, I think they were still calling them "Mail-order schools," or "Correspondence Courses."

If this is a survey or a poll, it's customary that the man who poses the question goes first. So, Spongebub, what have you done for humanity?

You people simply diminish your own already minimal dignity with your unrelenting attempts to tear down people like Sharon Mitchell. Like her or hate her, she's done good work with AIM and she's probably saved many lives. WTF has any of you done for humanity?
I don't deny she is doing good work, but that doesn't mean she is above criticism.
She could be doing better work by organising and spearheading a drive to test and categorise performers in relation to their Herpes status. Perhaps also introducing shorter testing cycles might weed out a few people and ward off (or at least drastically reduce) some other non-HIV STI outbreaks. Every infection that comes into the porn talent pool is down to someone being careless or irresponsible outside of porn. AIM's aim should be to ensure that nobody brings anything on set, and nobody leaves with anything either.
The bogus PhD. is an embarrassment, plain and simple, not to mention a slap in the face to real, qualified PhD.'s everywhere...every time she refers to herself as 'Dr. Mitchell', she (and by extension the whole adult industry) lose a little bit more credibility. What's more embarrassing is that people like AVN don't have the stones to call her on it and tell her to drop it.

I'm too lazy to watch the video and confirm it, but isn't porn 101 the video that you watch the first time you get tested at AIM?

i think the main and driving focus of AIM is to keep HIV out of the industry cause that could not only ruin the pool of talent....the rate of new girls entering the biz would be severely decreased.....
I think in a perfect world it would be safe from all sexually transmitted diseases...but how likily is that?
not a bad goal...just a bit unrealistic..

Sure, DanG, you bring up lots of good points. But this is the sex biz - if you are going to fuck on camera, you pretty much have to expect to get herpes. You telling me they should ban all performers who have the herp? There would be maybe 2 left. And everyone, probably you included, screams bloody murder if any performer dares use a condom. This is not a perfect world and imo AIM is a whole lot better than the next best alternative. At least there is a system in place that works somewhat well and Miss Mitchell deserves a lot of credit for that.
Nope, not banning, but categorising...people without Herpes should only with other performers who don't have it. Performers who do have it should only work with other performers who have it.
Theoretically, sex on a porn set should be the safest kind of sex you can have, but unfortunately the reality is somewhat different. Imagine how the talent pool would open up if you coud guarantee that nobody would get an STD doing porn.
I very much doubt it will happen, but it's something to shoot for...

how could you do that with talent having sex outside the industry........even when it comes to HIV testing...people are infected days before it shows up on a test.....
unless talent is tested everyday...not sure how realistic of a goal that would be....

And still years later the "gay" side of the industry still doesn't test for anything, let alone AIM is almost purely geared towards actors and actresses in Los Angeles and the surrounding area (even with their moves towards off site blood samples). With a growing industry within California with new growth centralized in San Diego and Frisco, issues will certainly arise with STD testing in the near future. I've heard numbers ranging from 3% to 70% (or higher) of the active "gay" stars having HIV; its only a matter of time with the growing number of actors and actresses working both sides of the industry let along the explosion in tranny scenes and the growing popularity of bisexual scenes that an outbreak will hit the straight side of the industry in the next 3-4 years that will be traced back to lax testing in the "non-straight" side. I don't necessarily see this as an issue for AIM itself, but for the greater industry itself. I really can't fault AIM with their use and emphasis on PCR DNA testing over Elisa testing for HIV; their prices for PCR testing are quite reasonable and the benefits of PCR testing are incredibly higher compared to other testing methods. Sharon does deserve kudos for that.

JUDY TENUTA said it best....It could happen!
Just as Police departments make new recruits sign a waiver stating that they wont somoke either on or off the job......
This one should be really a hoot to enforse.

It's a simple matter of professionalism. If a girl or guy is putting it around outside of the biz with numerous partners (protected or unprotected...condoms don't protect against everything), then they are clearly unprofessional and should be blacklisted.
If a boxer or UFC fighter got into a fight outside the ring, and then was unable to fulfil their contractual obligation in a much hyped PPV title bout, do you think the audience and promoters would look kindly on it? What if the fighter gets a wound from a bar brawl 2 days ago re-opened in the first round of the fight and the fight ends on a medical stoppage? Not cool.
It's the same deal for porners...anyone who brings diseases in is going to end up costing their fellow performers money in terms of medical bills and lost work. Rooting out those who are incapable of conducting themselves professionally and are constantly bringing STDs in to the talent pool would drastically reduce the number of serious outbreaks.
Like I say, I think AIM does a great job (although I notice none of Sharon Mitchell's supporters in this thread have dared to grasp the thorny issue of her bogus PhD. yet), I just think that they could be doing a better one with a little help from a few people in the industry.

A UFC fighter is under contract and there are rules and stipulations built into it to prevent such incidents from happening. Anything from suspension, paycuts and release from contractual obligation. Dana White doesn't want anything to happen to his investments.
Only thing close to that are contract girls. Im sure Vivid and Wicked have similiar structures. Non-contract girls can be reckless and don't have to answer to anyone for their behavior.
Contract companies could certainly be the ones to lead the way here...although, if you want to split hairs, everybody could be considered a contract performer in that they are contracted (orally or otherwise) to do one scene. Perhaps it is the agencies that need to take a hard line?

Yeah...but they can't prevent oral-to-genital (or vice versa) herpes transmission if the blowjob portion of the scene is bareback. Plus, any protection offered is pretty much null and void when the guy splooges over the chicks face. HIV transmission is theoretically possible via infected semen coming into contact with the optic membrane, AKA 'the eye'.
Also, one feels compelled to add at this juncture: Condoms break.

Yes as I have always said that if you can suck it with out a condom, you can fuck it with out one as well...but their practices lull the uneducated female performer into a belief that they will be almost absolutely 100% safe with the condom below (vaginally)...and per the Monica Lewnski effect that you cant get nothin thorough unprotected oral sex, Hell the fact that to most "people" in that age bracket don't even consider it a form of "sex" at all.
My only hope although it is a sick hope at best is that one of the performers who is unequivocally "condom only" catches a disease thorough oral sex transmission....that is the only way they (performers) will ever learn.
