The loose and false belief that they actually foster free speech at ADT is pretty much in line with government policy in the West. "Oh, you can talk about anything we want you to talk about. But if you step over our invisible line, or try in some way to challenge our authority or belief system on this board, we will bite back."
I'm not suggesting that XPT is blameless in the banning dept., but at least posters are allowed a good length of rope and can kick off discussions without looking over their metaphorical shoulder. Threads here generally don't get locked if the subject matter is valid news, gossip or adult movie-related stuff. At ADT, it seems that so many things, performers and producers are beyond criticism that it's almost pointless trying to post unless the content of your post is absolute slavish adoration.
This transient free speech and selective pro-porn stance (yep, it's pro-porn as long as the porn it's pro is porn ADT approves of) might seem like no big deal. Well to me it is. It's just yet another example of the gradual chipping away of actual free speech by people with their own agendas. Call me loopy, but if you have enough of that behavior, eventually it becomes the norm and no one realizes what they've missed. [/Burgimpersonation]

I find it amusing that she claims I have a "hardon" for ADT. If she said a "limp dick for ADT", I would have to concede the point though. I've been extremely generous in my remarks about them in recent years but apparently the thread, something I wrote, or the fact that Gene picked it up for his website as news struck a chord. If you get the chance, ask her how once upon a time the movies from Sin City started magically getting better ratings on technical values after they direct shipped titles to a particular reviewer, markedly different from what others saw. Then ask why were reviews allowed to be altered over the politics behind a company owner not firing an editor and/or posting in their forum when he left in disgust over the perceived blackmail attempt. Or perhaps how much praise was heaped on Extreme Associates titles by Tom Byron immediately after he joined the ADT forum; despite just about everyone up until that point offering evidence to the contrary. Want more???  As far as bumping up old threads, perhaps she should keep in mind that I just signed up on XPT and the questions posed in the original post are timeless. Consumers have a right to know if they are being hosed, especially if the reviews are the result of something other than the product like petty politics, if a friendship is involved between the reviewer and someone associated with the product, or if the reviewer is being compensated. I wasn't suggesting all of their reviewers were paid off or made shitty reviews (at least when I left, there were a number of entertaining reviews written there by writers that cared-even some that would occasionally cross the line were usually pretty good; but your mileage will vary as with all review websites). I'm even enough of a sport to let her actionable comment slide since it was obviously made in haste by someone out of character (she always hated confrontation, letting hubbie do the dirty work for her). They (ADT) don't pay anything but there are some that suggest outside interests have done so in the past for higher ratings. Apparently, she was "pissed off" by my reviving an old thread that Gene picked up for his website on a slow news day and the comments I made (which were pretty tame). Unfortunately, since "Drew" had a habit of using Steph's email account in the past and responding as though he was her, there is no way of telling which of them sent the email. The tone of her past emails was always substantially different than his and I never got the impression that she, unlike him, was emboldened by the whole internet dynamic (ie: that you could say anything you like without fear of getting a punch in the nose).
As far as the owners are concerned, while it wouldn't be fair to claim they were bi-polar as a certain male performer is, their actions over the years have certainly offered evidence in support of the charge. I don't mean that in a hateful way, just a passing observation from the peanut gallery.
My past dealings with both ranged from him sending me emails with his real name, trying to sic me on Adult DVD Empire for it's efforts to start up a competing website, to her apologizing for booting me off, in part because I had become their biggest cheerleader and a de facto representative. She was the one that repeatedly asked me to start reviewing for them years ago and I was content to do so but when things started to change, I wasn't about to sell my soul to "fit in" with the new program designed to make the website far more friendly to those in the industry.
Each Mod has a modicum of power over their fiefdom, some would say the kind of power they lack in real life, where they can project their beliefs onto others. Since they are not compensated for it, they are allowed a lot of latitude in their actions that are at least publicly supported, even when they go overboard. This gives each forum a slightly different "feel" to it and feeds an LCD mentality but that is nothing new or unique to them; and as you point out, some are far better than others.

It's alot like politics, you have to save face for your public in order to make them adore you. Then, when the two or you are in private, tell them to go fuck themselves, or moreso, threaten to slit their throat if they ever cross you like that again.
