when i first read the holly going into rehab thread it did strike me how nice everyone was being, considering if it had been almost anyone else they would be shot down. so luke has somewhat of a point there, although, it has been made many times before: xpt adores holly. another thing xpt always rewards is honesty- the bitchiest threads are always about people deemed hypocritical or duplitious. holly was honest, holly gets respect. as i have yet to say it, good luck holly. luke's second point, that alcoholism is not a disease, is perhaps a result of his australian upbringing. rob remarkably does stumble somewhere near the truth- australia does have a very high alcohol consumption per capita, so what is considered normal drinking behaviour in australia might class you as a raving alcoholic in the states.
also, australia doesn't really go for the whole addicition is a disease mantra pushed by organisations such as AA. not that we discount addiction as being a serious problem, just a different, less sympathetic, thought process. current psych theories on addiction also don't buy much into the addiction is a disease paradigm, and often point out that such thinking, combined with others such as "once an alcoholic, always an alcoholic", can sometimes do more harm than good in terms of offering a bleak outlook for recovery.
having said that, luke does go massively overboard by completely discounting brain chemistry and claiming people are gay by choice. but still, at least the guy's posting interesting shit that brings some sexy back to the cage.

I must confess to partially agreeing with Luke, in that I too found that nauseatingly ADTish. I don't think addicts of any variety are entitled to a massive outpouring of sympathy in the manner of a cancer victim - it is self inflicted after all...
...But hang on, Holly didn't ask for sympathy. Neither has she let herself descend to the level of a public train-wreck, ripe for mocking in the cage. This would have been a private matter between her and friends/family, if someone hadn't outed her. Um, Luke, YOU made this public, you've no right to complain when the reaction isn't what you expected.
We all have our flaws, especially the sort of cynical souls who inhabit the Monkey cage. The difference between us and our quarry is that we have the dignity not to advertise and celebrate them.

Lou, coming from you... i will take that as a high compliment. and willie, of course no responses were posted on his site... no one came out and said... "oh, oh luke how right you are!". Luke is a selective reporter, and will only run what goes his way. Not really true "journalism" but it is expected behaviour of paparazzi tabloid scumbags  I think we are letting the concept of "fanboyishness" get us off the point here. Holly is not some random whore, she is a regular contributor to this forum. Weather or not she is female, or even in the biz... she is someone who has earned the respect of the XPT posters. She did not come here seeking sympathy, her problems were exposed against her will. Even if she had chosen to expose them on her own, it still stands: Supporting people in a time of need proves no fanboyishness... it just shows human compassion and decency.

I finally got home just a little while ago...I missed all this. Bottom Line is Luke is a depressed person who is/was on Anti-depressants. He is an intelligent man, clearly affected by his illness... On the other hand, this whole concept of "depression" has been inflated to such an extent that it receives the blame (or credit) for a myriad of problems, tragedies, adverse events and human suffering that boggles the mind and makes us all wonder who is accountable for anything anymore. Willie's point(s), that Luke is essentially a Sociopathic Narcissistic turd as lazy as the Porn Stars he follows and photographs are equally valid as my own personal opinion that the man is seriously ill. It could even easily be both scenarios at the same time....I mean, If Prozac had been around in Ted Bundy's day, the police artist composite sketches would have shown a perpetrator who SMILED a lot more as he offed all these girls... I already posted not too long ago that Luke was circling Serial Killer-hood....
