Thank goodness that the last few years have seen something of a trend away from the ridiculously oversized bolt-ons.
Part of the appeal to the girls has to be the same as the whole "I've decided to do anal now - it will be good for my 'career'! " notion. It gives them a new look and hopefully lets them fit in a few more scenes before they are shot out. Of course, it also saddles them with lifelong medical issues that will linger long after the money is gone, but, hey, what porn whore thinks that far ahead?
I guess it also means more money when they feature dance. From 20 feet away in the dark, the implants look slightly less ridiculous.

I've finally realized that porn geeks are EXACTLY like any other kinds of geeks. Scifi geeks will piss and moan about which version of the Enterprise is better, Comic Book geeks bitch about Wolverine being too tall or Superman's outfit being the wrong shades of blue and red in the movies and porn geeks go on and on about fake tits. 90% of people out there; casual, Joe Public consumers, DO NOT GIVE A SHIT about fake vs real tits. If they like big tits then big fake tits are just as good as big real tits.  Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go pick up my Starfleet uniform from the dry cleaners.

I think that, unlike Enterprise models or Superman costumes, every hetero male cares about tits. Cares a lot.
The context is important though. The worst botched tit job - mismatched, scarred, three sizes too large for their body, and with a giant gap in-between - still looks good under a sweater and a bra. It is only the people who are most likely to get the implants - people who show their tits for a living - who are really affected by the quality of the boob job. So whether someone has had them done and how good they actually look matters most to someone who is actually looking at the raw results.

Yeah but a porn geek's definition of "quality" is different.
Real is the Gold Standard,.
Fake but can't tell is Silver,
Fake and CAN tell a distant Bronze
(Scarred/lopsided etc. off the map.)
The general public put the first THREE in the SAME category. They might prefer bigger or smaller but they don't actually CARE; they don't get pissed off and post on the net, about the other kinds of tits.
They can jerk/finger quite happily to mother nature's OR a surgeon's handiwork.
If the public hated fake tits they way the posters on pretty much EVERY porn forum seem to you just wouldn't see boob jobs (good or bad) in porno.

Well, the average porn consumer is going to watch the movie for seven minutes and rub one out while the wife is at the grocery store, so whatever comes up on the screen is going to be good enough; fake, real, or CGI. Most of the porn board complaints are of the "why did she ruin them, they used to be so perfect!" variety, and you are right that the average consumer, to whom Jenna Jameson is the only talent they could name, isn't going to know or care about this.
The general public may not be quite as uninterested as you portray them, however. The "They're real - and they're spectacular!" episode of Seinfeld comes to mind, as does the endless speculation back when Britney Spears was hot as to whether she had had them done or not.
If caring about tits makes someone a porn geek than I am proud to be a porn geek.

Well, the meth makes them shrivel up until they are nothing but two bags of silicone hanging off of a 14-year-old boy's body. And that isn't a good look for anyone.
I remember a stripper I used to know who had implants so oversized that she couldn't push her tits together in order to grip a dollar bill. And her meeth were so bad that watching her eat a sandwich was like watching someone feed a log (or Steve Buschemi) into a wood chipper - bread crumbs were flying everywhere. Plus, in addition to the usual emergency room visits, she had to go there once every other month because the pus from her rotting meeth would slide down the back of her throat and give her an infection.
