Today I've been playing quite a bit of junk:

Circle Jerks-Oddities, Abnormalities, and Curiousities
U.S. Bombs-Covert Action
The Queers-Rocket to Russia(song-for-song cover of the classic Ramones album)
Ramones-Too Tough to Die(had to hear some after listening to the Queers doing their stuff)

Metalheadz presents Platinum Breakz

It's a DnB sampler from a time (1996 to be exact) when I still cared for DnB before it grew boring on me. Lots of great tracks by artists like Photek, Doc Scott and Dillinja. Best of all: It features my all-time favourite DnB track "Pulp Fiction" by Alex Reece.

I have one of these Metalheadz compos. I think someone gave it to me. It's a 2 disc thing with the first CD being the artists best tracks then the 2nd CD being a DJ Mix. It's pretty interesting but gets a little too repetitive after a few listens.
Currently I'm listening to electricty clicks and blizzs. Funky stuff.

that should have read "moment" not "money" . I have a bad habit of singing "God Steve McQueen(the Work Song)" while at the factory. Right now, I am listening to some old-school punk clowns with "The Incredible Shrinking Dickies". It's the special edition which also has their rendition of Silent Night and The Banana Splits theme(old cartoon show).

One Banana Two Banana Three Banana Four (sorry, couldn't resist)

Riz Ortolani - Cannibal Holocaust (Soundtrack)

I'm still stuck in my Italo soundtrack listening stage. "Cannibal Holocaust" is Ortolani's congenial soundtrack to Ruggero Deodato's masterpiece. The perfect support for Deodato's manipulations. This is acoustic brainwashing. I just can't get the saccharine title theme out of my head. Guess, I need some help...

Dude- you must be fskcing with me. I watched this flick late last night with my girlfriend. She almost puked her guts out. I meet Deodato in 98 to talk about the infamous filmed-but never-edited crab eating sequence.
You know the part in the soundtrack that goes ... tada..ta..ta..tada..ta.. brrroooonggg I sample that shit major whilst doing sound design. If you like that check out Sandro Brugnolini's experimental stuff.

That's a weird coincidence for sure! I just felt like listening to some nice cannibal muzak today.

"Cannibal Holocaust" must rank pretty high as one of the worst date movies ever. I think Deodato must have some issues with women. In lots of his movies ("Last Cannibal World", "Cannibal Holocaust", "The House On The Edge Of The Park", "Cut And Run") cruelty to women is an important element. No wonder your girlfriend had a hard time watching this movie. (Okay, and the animal snuff might have been hard to stomach too.)

Would you care to elaborate on the crab eating sequence you mentioned? I've read some interviews with Deodato but haven't heard about it before.

Hmm, I'm not sure which part you mean. Is the "brrroooonggg" sound you're writing about a synthesizer sound? If so, then I think I know which part it is. Funny you're using that soundtrack for sampling too. I sampled some of the funky wah-wah guitar stuff years ago when I was messing around with Sonic Foundry's Acid software.

And I still can't get the title theme out of my head...

He filmed a notorious sequence where one of the natives gets eaten alive by crabs for one reason or another but he found it very dubious to synch with the rest of the story so it ended up on the chopping room floor. At the time I was doing some research type docu-filming with a friend from France and we were meeting all kinds of psychos. One guy from Germany had pictures of the primere where Ruggero almost got lynched and killed.

The part of the music am talking about (if you've seen the movie) is the part where you see the cannibals eating chicks, and you here this re-verbed ping-ball machine sound which echos like it was recorded in a hollow tunnel. Then you hear a tap-beat with base in 1/2 sequence.

Ah, now I know which part it is. I watched the movie about one month ago.
Will be looking out for Sandro Brugnolini's stuff too...

And to get the tread back on topic:

Scott Walker - The Drift

If you dug "Tilt" by enigmatic Scott Walker then you'll like this album too. He is barley relying on recognizable melodies anymore and incorporates sounds such as the sound of bare fists beating raw meat as percussion (on "Clara" - a song about the execution of Mussolini and his lover Claretta Petacci) without coming across as pretentious. Thumbs up!

Robert Mitchum - That Man

"That Man" is a compilation album collecting Mitchum's excursions into singing ("Calypso Is Like So" from 1957 and "That Man, Robert Mitchum, Sings" from 1967). The first half of the songs fall into the light country/easy listening genre whereas the second half of the album is strictly calypso. Mitchum is by no way a good singer but he sings with such a charming "I just don't give a fuck" attitude that it's hard not to like his music. And he has some good lyrics too: From a logical point of view, better marry a woman uglier than you.

Ever seen the movie "Suburbia" about those kids who run away from home and live in a dilapidated old house in an abandoned neighborhood? Remember the scene in the punk club where the girl gets her dressed ripped off? Remember the band on stage, who was singing "Richard Hung Himself"? This is that band, and that song is on this release. Slayer covered the song on an album full of punk covers given a metal makeover, but it's probably not the same, you know?

OMFG I loved that movie! Remember that real pretty girl who cut her hair? Remember the dogs? Great stuff from TSOL also.

My girlfriend picked this record up at a bookstore this afternoon for just $3. The mammoth on the cover is man. This is perhaps the foulest record I've ever heard. I'll give it a few more listens and chop it up on the turn tables.
