I have a belt buckle in the shape of an arrow head with Chief Joseph of the Nez Perce on the front and the end of his famous speech on the back.
"Hear me, my chiefs. I am tired. My heart is sick and sad. From where the sun now stands, I will fight no more forever. "
I got it at the Cowboy Hall of Fame out in Have2's Okie Land. Top corner of the arrowhead stabs the underside of my gut so I rarely wear it.
They were great at running away and surrendering. Well, maybe not so great at running away, because they never got away. Hence the skill at surrendering.
They're really the bottom of the barrel even among Indians. Unemployment rate that would make Pine Ridge cringe. Worse than any ghetto you could imagine. Not quite Tijuana level poverty, but pretty bad. In the old days other regional tribes would hit them when slaves were needed. Their casino was in a tent...a literal tent...for 15+ years. Triteones could look down on them.
