You sports talk junkies out there may be aware that Jim Rome switched broadcasters with the new year, effectively knocking himself off the air here in Phoenix.

They filled his former time slot with Jay Mohr, who used to guest host for Rome on days off. Mohr is hilarious and does a great job, in my opinion.

My conundrum now, is whether to seek out Rome via internet radio, or just roll with Mohr. Anyone else in on this?

Never heard him do his own radio show, but I can't stand Jay Mohr.

Hmmm, after taking a look at Rome's website, he is on CBSSports. I hope they don't put him on WFAN660. I like that WFAN is local and not national. Though Boomer and Carton in the morning are fucking horrid.

google "jay mohr opie and anthony" and you can hear some of what Mohr's capable of doing as well as his weaknesses. You could learn enough from that audio to start calling in and pushing his buttons pretty easily.

I used to listen to O&A in the afternoons, before they got fired for the sex contest. When they came back to regular radio I tried, but couldn't take it.

Rome was really good about ten years ago but his show hasn't aged well. funny, in a way.

And for a guy who was thrown for a forward pass on live TV, he's pretty good at poking fun at himself too.

I know other die-hard long timers have issues with the way it has aged, but for someone who came on board the Rome phenom more recently I've got to say I enjoy it thoroughly.

He seems to eschew the callers more now, which is good, because I don't quite understand the phony vitriol and shtick they use. Every once in a while there's one that kills, but I suppose they've become a victim of their own success. Rome is the talent, and no one can riff for three hours about "Die Hard" on a slow news day like that guy can.

So who has lost him on their dial?

Mohr's podcast is 10x better than i expected. he also tosses in some great old stories about working on movies with famous dudes etc.

Rome is a fucking load. He has never been interesting. He is a mediocre broadcaster at best and fuck his opinions are ill informed.
The goatee/fake outrage etc. is so fucking dated...

Dude, I felt that way for the looongest time, too. He says it himself though, his show isn't for everyone, but if you give it two weeks and still don't like it . . . give it another two weeks.
