the unknown pervert Porn Jesus Registered: 03/22/07 Posts: 5186 Loc: Joshua Tree National Park	The NWS has issued flood warnings for 26 different creeks and rivers tonight in the eastern half of Kansas and that's not counting the buku amount of street flooding all over the place. Nor is it counting the one tornado, one semi blown over, one camper trailor blown over, two railroad crossing signs with the metal bars that go up and down blown over, or the twenty some odd power lines I've seen snapped like twigs today. When I would ask them why they lived there knowing that they could lose everything at a moment's notice, they reminded me about California and how earthquakes don't give any notice. I don't want to have to go to the mid-west to see empty space. Or at least I hope I don't have to. I grew up in central PA and have spent plenty of time on farms and I miss it. _________________________

I poked around the internet looking for an answer to that question and the closest thing I could find was a chart that said Kansas averaged 43 tornadoes per year between 1950-1995. I personally think that is a little on the low side, keeping in mind that radar was not as sophisticated, chasing storms was not a popular hobby, and there were a lot less people throughout the state to witness tornadoes back in the fifties and early sixties. I would say 50 to 60 a year is closer to the truth. Conq, that really isn't my space. That was taken about 6 or 7 miles west of Mid-Continent Airport in Wichita. I live about 150 miles away in Topeka. The convection forecast at the Storm Prediction Center looked so good Sunday morning it was worth the drive down there. Any time the NWS uses the phrase Particularly Dangerous Situation in this part of the country they are practically guaranteeing a tornado outbreak. This was actually tame compared to most PDS's they issue. I think there were only two or three tornadoes that touched down Sunday. Usually a PDS results in something like Greensburg or Andover but the NWS missed something in their analysis Sunday. Lots, and lots, and lots of rain (Wichita had over 6 inches and I would bet most of that came in a span of about five hours.) but very little in the way of hail and wind. I read the same numbers and I also think they are low. Surprised that Texas had over 120 avg per year. Don't hear about Texas as much as OK, KS, ARK. Interesting to note that the state with the most deaths from Tornados is Tennessee. Mostly because of the increase in population density and that most storms hit there at night after they've rambled across the plains. Also, I'm sure their numbers are high because of the number of trailers. You are a sitting duck in those things. _________________________ "Quasarman. One thing I did find while researching is that Kansas has had the highest number of F-5/EF-5 tornadoes since 1900. Another reason why Tennessee, as well as places like Arkansas, northern Alabama, and southern Missouri, have so many people killed is that no one can see a twister coming. All those hills and trees take away your line of sight even if you are out in the middle of nowhere. Whereas with Kansas, the western 2/3 of Oklahoma, and Texas you can see 10 or more miles away on the horizon. _________________________ I would eat Allie Sin's asshole until I got an emotion out of her.-Jerkules
