Think the industry will experience an up tick w/ the file sharing sites shutting down (MegaUpload) or tightening rules (FileSonic, FileServe no longer letting people share links)? Or you think people will just torrent and tube there way to happy fapping? Discuss.

Every time someone tries to block file sharing all that happens is the means and methods of sharing files evolve to make it harder to trace or prevent.

I foresee a slight up tick but it will be difficult to undo the changes wrought by the tubesites in particular.

It's pretty difficult to predict the development of private companies, as they usually don't publish their actual figures for everyone to see in every detail. Some chatter and talking points don't have to be that accurate and still can have an impact on how industry poeple see their surroundings. It's mostly blubber.

True that. Napster was put out of business. Didn't stop anyone. Look at where piracy is now. The genie is out of the tube. Hollywood's distribution business model is outdated. They aren't going to beat pirates. They need to take a page from what the music industry did in the face of Napster. There's money to still be made, they just have to look at it from a different direction.

I might go see a movie instead of downloading if they didn't hit me with a half hour (at the least) of commercials before the movie starts.

My favorite torrent search engine stopped listing torrents by date/latest or by category today so now it will only display torrents by specific searches. Makes finding new PDFs and vids harder for me. Disappointing but not unexpected.

Filesharing will always evolve. What is killing the porn industry isn't that the file-serv/Tube sites/torrents exist, but that their legit, for pay sites continue to offer poorer selection, lesser convenience, lesser quality than the illegit ones at frankly absurd prices.

Until there is a iTunes for porn that sells all content from all companies at $1 a pop DRM free H.264, in HD where applicable, the "piracy" problem will only get worse.

Keep in mind that Megaupload was gone after because they were hosting MPAA controlled Hollywood movies and RIAA controlled music, not porn. The feds wouldn't be reaching all the way to New Zealand for some porn only site.

The whack a mole game has never worked. Only a legit alternative that is better and more convenient than the free version will ever work.

Some additional aspects:

iTunes doesn't come close in quality to the leading high-end medium which currently is Blu-Ray Disc. The codec doesn't tell much about the bitrate, thus the actual fidelity of the video material. And if they're selling anything other than 1080p/24 material and get away with it, they deserve some respect for ripping off those who don't get it and probably never will.

MegaUpload hosted plenty of porn no content creator ever put there. They also had their MegaPorn.com daughter site and an HD version of it as well.

Still there is the assumption that people will pay voluntarily which I don't believe.

iTunes is still 720p for HD movies. I watched a streaming 1080p movie on VUDU a while back and it looked just like Blu-Ray to me. I guess they used to offer porn on VUDU, but Wal-Mart bought them out and killed their "After Dark" porn channel. Oh well.

It's up to the TV set, how it's configured and the experience of the viewer to notice differences not necessarily apparent at first glance.
Most porn releases can't compete with Hollywood mainstream feature film production levels in terms of picture quality. Gonzo porn material shot on solid camcorders, streamed and probably moderately compressed might look like a porn Blu-Ray Disc to some and not to others.
What's usually not comprehended is that data is a type of currency on the internet. To deliver more data in a given amount of time costs more. Not only the end consumer has to pay more for more. So it's reasonable economically for Apple and others to stream shitty material or offer it to be downloaded - it just doesn't have to do with good video.
1080p/30 Hollywood feature film material contained in what is called BD RIPs is far too common and kills any solid depiction of movement 1080p/24 offers. It just looks more like in cinemas for this alone already. Added unnecessary compression and frame rate changes in the transcoding - or ripping - process will lead to a noticeable degradation in quality if you know what to look for and the gear isn't bad.

I offered iTunes as an example, not because they offer the best possible quality, but because they offer a frictionless, easy, impulse buy ready (cheap prices) experience -- something that doesn't exist in porn retailing.

The genius of iTunes, from the very start of the store, was the idea that they were competing with *free* and thus had to give users a compelling reason to buy from them rather than to download for free. They succeeded. No one in porn seems to have even gotten the idea.

iTunes got away with selling music encoded in lossy audio codecs as well. This and the video aspects outlined above were in regard to the higher quality you mentioned not seeing in porn available legally.
So for the porn crowd file sizes tend to get quite huge if it's good HD material they want; if they don't get this quality legally and want their downloads to hopefully max out the downsream of their connection, they can just as easily purchase a premium account from their file hosting site of choice. I'm unsure about usenet access as an alternative, but it should also point in roughly the same direction.
Porn producers should do what they can to compete with free content, content of superior quality or partially free content of superior quality they won't make any money on if they want to change things. This isn't done right without various considerations beforehand and probably out of reach for small porn businesses which seem to employ underqualified people for their affairs just because they know them or whatever.

Fuck 'em, prosecute every last scumbag who rips copyrighted material & bankrupt them, just so you know how some content PRODUCERS feel when their product is only selling minimal volumes b/c of cheap fuck dirtbags who continue to want everything for free.

I think the prices are set by the porn companies not adultempire as Elegant Angel's videos are available for a day rental at $1.99 (and how often do you need gonzo longer than a day?) whereas most Evil Angel (besides Mike Adriano) is way more and that frat-boy douchebag with an ego problem JJ is even worst.

A couple of the tubes have temporarily disabled user uploading. One of the sites did this the day after that HUGE Canadian pedo-ring bust, and their statement about this decision seemed to have everything to do with Child Porn and didn't mention anything about copyrights, etc. None of those sites have 2257 documentation for all of the homeade/Ex-GF/webcam/cell phone videos that could have under-agers. I always wondered how the hell they got away with that. I figured it was because of overseas servers or something.

On that note, I always wondered how 4chan gets off with that shit too. Maybe Fiend can elaborate.
