Hefner (Hugh) as well as Flynt (Larry) have BOTH surpassed any usefulness to the adult industry.
They are but remnants of a bygone era.

Behind the walls of his fabled Playboy Mansion, he is as close as you can get in this country to royalty.
"Royalty" doesn't have to pay rent on their pad. From PEI's most recent annual report.
Quote:
Under a 1979 lease entered into with Mr. Hefner, the annual rent Mr. Hefner pays to us for his use of the Playboy Mansion is determined by independent experts who appraise the value of Mr. Hefner's basic accommodations and access to the Playboy Mansion's facilities, utilities and attendant services based on comparable hotel accommodations. In addition, Mr. Hefner is required to pay the sum of the per-unit value of non-business meals, beverages and other benefits he and his personal guests receive. These standard food and beverage per-unit values are determined by independent expert appraisals based on fair market values. Valuations for both basic accommodations and standard food and beverage units are reappraised every three years and are annually adjusted between appraisals based on appropriate consumer price indexes. Mr. Hefner is also responsible for the cost of all improvements in any Hefner residence accommodations, including capital expenditures, that are in excess of normal maintenance for those areas.

Hugh Hefner helped make the world of porn possible, but has he outlived his usefulness?
No.
A long time ago, Charles Schulz created the "Peanuts" comic strip. He was very innovative: He created child characters who spoke intelligently and had real problems. He came up with animals who think and created the convention where somebody writes on paper and the words appear at the top of the panel.
In time, his innovations were adopted into comics in general and "Peanuts" was no longer a trendsetter.
Hugh Hefner is in the same situation. The girl-next-door as nude model was Hefner's innovation, and so was the casual sexuality that he encouraged. We all caught up with Hef -- and for most people reading this, the job was done before you were born -- so he doesn't seem innovative any more.
And maybe he isn't.
But as a pioneer in the sexual revolution, he deserves our respect. Because without him, things could have developed in a completely different direction.

The man is a legend from times past and deserves our respect and praise . In my opinion all the lines he crossed at his time were far more important then sometimes he is given credit for. Especially in such a sexually ass-backwards country as the u.s.
Of course hes gone a little soft and just drifts around in a fantasy world surrounded by bimbos, yet we are still envious lol
