Because other people (i.e. companies that have shot her before) can use the name...if DP are going to throw the full force of their considerable marketing and PR assets behind a girl, then they're going to make sure it is for their benefit only and nobody else's.

If DP makes Sophia Santi into the biggest star in the world and ten times more popular than Jenna etc., I can't put out a scene I shot of her when she was Natalia Cruz and put 'Sophia Santi' on the boxcover because 'Sophia Santi' is a wholly-owned trademark of Digital Playground.

Of course, I can put out an old scene of the soon-to-be 'Katsuni' if I call her Katsumi on the boxcover...it hardly seems worth the effort if you're just going to change one letter, but I believe their were some legal wranglings vis a vis Tera's name when she left DP. Obviously she won as she still goes by Tera.

As for me, I'm just going to call her 'TAFKAK' from now on...The Artist Formerly Known As Katsumi. Also, fuck the haters, she's hot...not Charmane Star/Kaylani Lei hot, but pretty passable all the same.

Perhaps this calls for an addendum to the FLoP about being shot out and getting new tits? Something like 'If you're shot out and a)get implants or b) change your name, you're still shot out'?

I favour the tabula rasa copyright ethos myself...why can't people just be honest about it? Changing her name to Katsuni achieves absolutely nothing. There will still be hundreds (if not thousands) of DVD titles out there bearing the name 'Katsumi'...nothing is going to change that, and there is no way that she will surpass the output of her gonzo days now that she's a contract girl.
