I just wanted to comment on the regression of porn today. I mean, what happened to the glamour. I mean if you look at yesteryear, there were girls like Hypatia Lee or Terri Weigel or Nina. Then there were girls like Asia, Tara, Brianna, Jenna and Bridgette. All these girls had that porn star look to them. They looked like movie stars or something larger than life. I mean no offense to the new breed, but Hillary Scott may take anal good, but she doesn't have that same larger than life thing going on. She was another person I met at AEE and wasn't overwhelmed by her presence. She might have been someone's daughter or a girl next door.
So what gives? Am I missing something or is the reason that porn is making less money because they are killing off the "porn star". Do the fans want so much diversity that girls have to get shot out after 12-24 months and move on to the next girl? I personally thought it was cool to see the girls age and mature on screen over the years. Granted they used to age much more gracefully.
I would say that to save porn, the girls should all be at least average looking. I mean there are some ugly porn whores. What gives with porn today or am I being way too cynical?

I get what you're saying, I mean, it does seem like the girls were STARS back in the day. I mean, maybe it's just because more girls are doing it today. I mean, maybe since there were less porn stars 20 years ago they seemed like bigger stars. I mean, today there's a fresh new face every day. I mean, you know what I mean?

I think what happened to the larger than life porn star is they became too mainstream. Take a some underground punk/hardcore band with a somewhat small but highly dedicated fan-base. Okay, so the band pumps out a handful of releases highly praised by their fans and tour relentlessly across the US putting on high energy shows in small sweaty dives to the same fans. This band finds mainstream exceptance, gets on MTV, signs to a major label, and tours the US but only hits the biggest cities and largest arenas, but with only half the heart they put into the smaller scale shows. Guess what, most of the original fans feel cheated and turn on the band. The remaining fans(who stick by the band, but think something is not quite the same about them anymore) and the new-found fans outnumber the original fan-base, so the band is happy and laughing all the way to the bank.
How does this compare to the "Larger than Life" porn stars?
Well, porn(even in its most tamest forms) used to be considered dirty. Then people like Jenna and Asia Carrera(sp?) started showing up on Howard Stern, E!, MTV, mainstream movies, what-have-you. Suddenly porn seemed a lot more socially acceptable. People suddenly weren't ashamed of porn anymore. Well, for a lot of people, part of the thrill in porn was that it was somewhat dangerous and socially unacceptable to watch/own pornography. some people making porn thought this, too. The result, using more average girls in the movies, but doing things more extreme. This pleased these hardcore porn fans who had turned their backs on super-enhanced, drop dead gorgeous, no-way-in-hell-you-ever-have-a-chance-with type of girls and had become jaded with the by-the-numbers oral-vag-(possibly anal)-cumshot method of porn.
The larger than life pornstars' material sold very well(and likely still does), but someone felt they need to shoot something to appeal to the porn fans who felt left out when it became mainstream.
But that's just my view on things.

I think we were more impressionable back in the day because we were younger, too.

As a young teen I would boost porno mags from the corner store (before Reagan came in and changed the laws) mainly XXX Cinema Review or at worst Club or Cheri and I think the whole danger and illegality added a fetishing element that will always brand that period of erotic cinema on my brain stem forever. Yeah but it is pretty obvious that these new girls aren't anywhere near the caliber of yesteryear. Jesse Jane has that look to her, but she is something like 4'5". In past generations, she would be classified as a midget  and possibly be working in a circus.

Today's market is all about quantity over quality, for one thing. The lack of features, the illicit nature of porn when some of us posters were younger...they all play a part.
But when there are hundreds of new releases every month and so many starlets in an industry that thrives on fresh meat, it's not so surprising that few whores rise above the mediocre.

Your absolutely right, so what has to be done is that today's sluts need to be called "Porn Whores". The name, "Porn Star" shall never be used again in the same breath with these little cretins.

Amen. The talent pool was thinner, but there was a lot of hottness at the top. Taija Rae cums to mind (again and again). This is why they were called "porn stars". Because the pool was so thin, the true talent used to stand out and actually stay around long enough to receive their Best New Starlet award before being considered shot out. Remember when there were just those few treasured VHS tapes that were watched multiple times? These days, a shut-in can download terabytes of stolen porn during a rainy weekend.
