Also, do you create the storyline (if there is one) or does someone else do that. How much creative control do you have? Do you just tell the performers what positions and dictate what camera angles and how you want them to act?
I have no idea of how directing works in porn which is why I ask.
Directors: I draw from mason concept wise and Francesca Le heat wise (I hope to anyway) as far as shots I'm draw more from specific scenes than directors. I'm a huge Jim powers fan all around in that his shit is well shot but funny.
there are story lines and I make them up and adjust them.
in this movie there are 5 scenes.
The story for the Sandra/mark scene came from when I was a bondage model, one time I was shooting at my house and maintence showed up.
Tyla/ Harry is based on a day I had with mason. but I had to stream line it. so instead of driving it's set in a living room.
Penny/Chris scene was inspired by a blowing that I was crew on that the actress was late for.
Katrina/Sasha scene is her throwing her old shitty life away for a better one. this was my metamorphosis literal analogy for my life.

the last scene was inspired by the movie 28 days later. in the opening where the monkey is strapped to the bed staring at monitors and forced to learn rage, but in this he's forced to learn to fuck. that vignette wraps around me and van's scene that is suppose to be what he is watching.
I talk through the positions with the performers but I don't really care what they do as long as I get good coverage, it's more important that they enjoy it than I get 18 minutes of pile driver. I try to 1 vag 4 anal and I don't ask for more than 4 usable minutes. with performers like Mark and Sandra I just let them Fuck and try to keep up. You will see very few edits in that scene. As far as hot to act yes I tell them their roles and we do many takes of the vignette.
As far as creative control goes I couldn't be more thrilled. I told Elegant what I wanted to do. I shot the first scene turned it in Patrick asked me to make some changes for pacing and gave me a check to finish the movie. No one told me who I could/couldn't use no one said it needed to be any length or have all anal or anything like that. I believe they didn't even know who was in it until I turned it in. Of course Patrick made it clear to em that if it sucked it would not be released and the movie was an extension of this audition.
As far as shots go I'm more into seeing a scene in a movie and I try to recreate it. I tried to do the opening of the mark/Sandra scene like the hooves in kingdom of heaven so we dicked around a lot with film speed. the sex is shot normal, you'll see the transition as Sandra rips his shirt off.
the opening of my scene (with Katie and Chris) is inspired by 2 shots one the scene in 28 days later, and second the shot in go fuck yourself 1 where coffee Ron drags heather into the darkness.
for the most part you are going to find wider shots than is the norm. the sex fills the screen but I try to get reactions more than close ups.
