Why would you think she wasn't proud?
There are plenty of male directors who aren't exactly in the porn public's eye. Like, uh, gee: Khan Tusion? What's he hiding from?
Anyway, I think the burkha was retired sometime before AEE 2004.
Yup, and I asked the same thing of Kahn back in the day, although on a different msg board.
As for burkha/mask/whatever, good to see she retired it. Maybe she will take some pride in her work. If not, she should go back to the mainstream industry cause obviously that's where she wants to be anyways.
I'm not a fan of Mason and never will be. I keep thinking that she's trying to be like the boys, attempting to tap into that certain misogyny that drives the majority of the men in porn. The same misogyny that drives many of the male viewers of porn. It's evident in her work, as she tries to taunt and degrade women in a sort-of-POV filmmaking style. Although, she never gets too involved as she clearly doesn't want to hinder her chances of getting into mainstream movies again.
See, the one problem is that Mason is a WOMAN and can never possibly understand those misogynistic feelings that seem to lurk beneath the surface of every male in porn, and many males in society. The same mentality that drives artists like Eminem to write songs like 'Kim' or filmmakers to direct movies like "Diary of a Rapist'. It's about the anger.
Brandon, Kahn, Jeff, Max, all of them, clearly are (or were) making porn for the idea of degrading women -- deriving a certain thrill at seeing women being humiliated and, in a sense, put in their place. So, how in the fuck can Mason tap into that same sensibility since she's partially the reason for the manifestation of those sensibilites in her male counterparts? Well, she can't. She has no idea where her male counterparts are coming from, or the audience that watches degrading rough porn. So, she has to simply regurgiate what she has seen in other movies from men. It's similar to the reasoning why there's very little hateful degrading gay porn. It just doesn't work because the two sides are the same and that anger can't play out.
Mason's product has always felt contrived and silly - like she's copying the boys. There are exceptions to the rule. I think some women generally get off on the rough stuff, but they don't tend to produce the same kind of POV-wannabe misogynistic movies that Mason does.
That other pic I put up is toast.
Here's this one, although I'm starting to think the whole Full house thing is BS.
